Founded in 1973 as a cable television operator with 1,500 Long Island customers, Cablevision today offers television, phone and Internet services to millions of households and businesses in the New York metropolitan area. In addition, Cablevision was owner and operator of Madison Square Garden and its properties from 1997 until February 2010, when the sports and entertainment leader became a separate, public company now called The Madison Square Garden Company.
