Cablevision Systems Corporation is a leading telecommunications, media and entertainment company with a portfolio of operations that includes a full suite of advanced digital television, voice and high-speed Internet services, some of the country's most-watched national television networks, and valuable local media and programming properties.

Founded in 1973 as a cable television operator with 1,500 Long Island customers, Cablevision today operates the nation's single largest cable cluster, passing more than 5 million households and businesses in the New York metropolitan area with its state-of-the-art fiber-rich network. This world-class system connects residential and business customers in the country's top market to Cablevision's Optimum®-branded communications services: iO TV® digital television, Optimum Voice® digital voice, Optimum Online® high-speed Internet and Optimum WiFi®, the nation's largest wireless Internet network. In addition, Cablevision's Optimum Lightpath® division meets the communications needs of larger companies as a leading provider of integrated business communications solutions.

Cablevision also reaches hundreds of millions of consumers around the world through its Rainbow Media Holdings subsidiary, a leading producer of pioneering content for multiple media platforms. Rainbow Media owns and operates some of today's most popular and award-winning entertainment brands, including programming networks AMC, IFC, Sundance Channel and WE tv. In addition, Rainbow Media operates IFC Entertainment, a groundbreaking independent film business that consists of multiple brands devoted to bringing the best of specialty films to a large audience.

Catering to the New York market are Cablevision's local media and programming properties that deliver content created specifically for the communities it serves. These include iO TV exclusives News 12 Networks, an award-winning, local news leader, and MSG Varsity, a suite of television and online services covering high school sports and activities throughout the tri-state area. Providing additional compelling local content is Newsday Media Group, which consists of Long Island's leading daily newspaper, Newsday, and the popular Web site Newsday.com, as well as amNewYork, the nation's most widely circulated free daily serving New York City, and Star Community Publishing, the Northeast's largest group of weekly shopper publications.

Also a part of the Cablevision family of companies is Clearview Cinemas, one of the largest exhibitors in the tri-state area and owner of the famed Ziegfeld Theatre, a popular and historic site for film premieres.

Cablevision was also majority owner and operator of Madison Square Garden and its properties from 1997 until February 2010, when the sports and entertainment powerhouse became a separate, public company, Madison Square Garden, Inc.
