Woodbury, N.Y., October 22, 2008 -- News 12 and News 12 Traffic and Weather have taken their comprehensive weather coverage a step further, through an agreement with Weather Underground that provides exclusive access to more than 400 local neighborhood weather stations across the New York metropolitan area. In addition to more detailed reporting during televised weathercasts, News 12 is making the valuable information available on, giving visitors to the site direct access to this new source of real-time weather conditions and forecasts.

"This is an exciting and important moment for News 12", said Patrick Dolan, President of News 12. "We've always provided the most comprehensive look at local weather, through our Dual Doppler system and thousands of local forecasts across our market every day, but the addition of real-time information from more than 400 Weather Underground stations to our weather-gathering resources, and in the hands of our experienced and knowledgeable meteorologists, will allow us to take hyper-local to the extreme."

"News 12 has been an innovator in the delivery of local news and information for more than 20 years, and we are pleased to be adding our pioneering network of online resources and local user-operated network of weather sites to the information that will reach millions of consumers through News 12, News 12 Traffic and Weather and News", said Toby Skinner, Director of Marketing for Weather Underground.

Weather Underground is providing data from more than 400 weather stations, adding to the stations already owned and operated by News 12. News will have the information from each weather station accessible and "map-able" which can all be customized by the user. Each weather station provides current temperatures, wind speed and direction, heat index and wind chill, humidity, dew point, precipitation measurements, and more. Users can also access these maps on by going to the "Weather and Traffic" page and clicking on "hyper local weather stations." Weather Underground has developed the world's largest network of personal weather stations (over 10,000 active stations in the US and almost 3,500 across the rest of the world) that provides users with the most localized weather conditions available.

News 12 employs 17 meteorologists, delivering more than 2000 updates every day. News 12 is also the only news and information network with a Dual Doppler system. With one system located on Long Island and the other in New Jersey, these two state-of-the art Doppler units combine to continuously scan the entire tri-state region, significantly extending the coverage area of a single system.

Cablevision subscribers can utilize the resources of News 12's weather information on a number of different platforms.
