Sports & Entertainment > Madison Square Garden Properties
The company’s Madison Square Garden (MSG) and its properties attract millions of people every year to experience the biggest names in entertainment and sports. “The World’s Most Famous Arena” features an event roster that includes celebrated musical artists, national conventions and sporting events, and is home to MSG’s three professional sports teams, the NBA’s New York Knicks, the NHL’s New York Rangers and the WNBA’s New York Liberty. Also part of the MSG complex, the WaMu Theater at Madison Square Garden features stage productions, concerts and special events.
New York’s legendary Radio City Music Hall presents live concerts, televised award shows and special events year-round. “The Showplace of the Nation” has hosted the NFL Draft, as well as the Tony and MTV Video Music awards, and remains the backdrop for The Radio City Christmas Spectacular and the world-famous Radio City Rockettes, whose signature kicks have graced this New York City landmark since its doors opened in 1932. The majestic music hall was spectacularly restored by Cablevision in 1999 and continues to delight millions of visitors each year.
Concerts, family shows, televised events and comedy shows are the primary fare at the famed Beacon Theatre, one of the original art-deco showplaces still in existence in New York City. Hosting generations of New Yorkers since 1929, the Beacon is among the newest additions to the MSG family.
MSG Entertainment (MSGE), the Garden’s live entertainment company, is recognized for its signature combination of live productions and event marketing. In addition to the numerous concerts and events that occur each year at Cablevision’s celebrated entertainment properties, MSGE produces shows across America. Live events include The Radio City Christmas Spectacular, as well as productions of The Christmas Spectacular outside of New York. MSGE and Cirque du Soleil have partnered to produce Wintuk, a new, family-themed production presented exclusively at the WaMu Theater at Madison Square Garden beginning in November 2007.
Complementing MSG's showplaces and production operations, MSG Media delivers award-winning regional sports and entertainment programming across the tri-state area through its MSG and MSG Plus television networks. The MSG network features the Knicks, Rangers and Liberty, while MSG Plus airs the games of the New Jersey Devils and New York Islanders. Both networks offer a broad range of high-definition telecasts and a slate of New York Emmy Award-winning productions.
Another MSG division is fuse, a popular music television network that enhances the Garden's live music and entertainment portfolio with its youthful demographic, national reach and Manhattan street-front studio.
Madison Square Garden also owns the Hartford Wolf Pack, an American Hockey League franchise that calls Connecticut's Hartford Civic Center home. The Wolf Pack is the top player-development affiliate of the New York Rangers.
In November 2006, MSG joined the ownership group of Aviator Sports and Recreation, a 170,000 square-foot mega-sports complex at Brooklyn’s historic Floyd Bennett Field that includes two professional-size indoor ice rinks, an indoor field house and a state-of-the-art fitness center.
